Take Charge! – Diabetes Self Management Program
Free workshop for UNCG employees and/or dependents!
8 week workshop begins February 2, 2017!

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program and the Diabetes Self -Management Program are each 6 week workshops for people with chronic health problems, and diabetes respectively, or those that care-take for those with these conditions. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders.
Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, and/or the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, healthy eating, meal planning and carbohydrate counting 6) decision making, and, 7) how to evaluate new treatments.
It is the process in which the program is taught that makes it effective. Classes are highly interactive, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
